Nathan Mayer Rothschild (16 September 1777 – 28 July 1836) was an English-German banker, businessman and financier. Born in Frankfurt am Main in Germany, he was the third of the five sons of Gutle (née Schnapper) and Mayer Amschel Rothschild, and was of the second generation of the Rothschild banking dynasty. On 16 April 1867, he married Emma Louise von Rothschild (1844–1935), a double first cousin (i.e., they shared both sets of grandparents) from the Rothschild banking family of Germany in Frankfurt. They had three children: • Lionel Walter Rothschild (1868–1937), who never married but had two mistresses, one of whom bore him a daughter.
